Fallen's lack of development and the trope of instant-love just didn't mix well with its premise and, frankly, kept tripping over itself. ![]() We know virtually nothing besides the present and every time we get a little closer to learning something, we get tossed into this back-and-forth of love and angst that gets a little tiring. One of the things that made me less than keen on the previous two books in Lauren Kate's bestselling series was that we know very little of Lucinda's past lives, the curse, the angels and demons, or her relationship with Daniel. Yet, in some important ways, the critical situation has changed less than it might. (By 1981 many of his books were, in fact, out of print.) Instead, Kerouac has continued to find readers, and the Beats are now an emerging field of literary study, with Kerouac recognized as one of the central figures. ![]() When this study was originally published in 1981, Kerouac was still a suspect figure who was, it seemed, fated to be remembered only for his connection to Allen Ginsberg and William Burroughs or, perhaps more plausibly, doomed to be forgotten altogether as his market as a writer of popular fiction faded. This sisterly bond was tumultuous at best. ![]() This book really did put their relationship front and center. I really loved the growth that both of their characters were able to undergo throughout the series. In this story, they really found a way to rely on each other, respect each other, and to become a unified team. She has hated him at times, and she has adored him at others. Isabel and Curzon’s relationship has seen some definite highs and some significant lows. She created incredible character relationships and dynamics in this series that developed so beautifully and came to perfect fruition in this final installment. Review: This was an incredible finale to the Seeds of America trilogy! Anderson did so well at bringing all of the different pieces from the series to a well-developed close in this story, and I thoroughly enjoyed each and every moment of this book. Their journey now brings them to the forefront of the Revolutionary War, traveling with the Continental Army and, whether they want to or not, joining the revolution. This won’t stop them from searching for Ruth, though. Summary: Isabel and Curzon are on the move, this time as reported runaway slaves – a severe crime. ![]() |
